Seeking God

Opening question:

Let us take a minute to examine our hearts right now. What do you feel and see in your heart. Is there emptiness? Is there joy? Is there contentment and fulfillment? Is there something missing? What is missing? What do you think can fill it in?

Intro to the study:

There was a king in the Bible who was very famous for his wisdom. This King was given by God, wisdom that is unparalleled until today. The Bible says in 1 Kings 3:12-13 that God gave him a wise and discerning heart, which no one has ever had nor will ever have. Furthermore, God said that he will have both riches and honor that no one in his lifetime will equal him.

This king's kingdom was so rich that he made silver as common as stones on the streets.

In his lifetime, he explored everything. He went to try everything that he thought could make man happy. His endeavors were recorded in the book of Ecclesiastes. Lets' read...

Ecclesiastes 2:1-11

In the following chapters, we find the emptiness of his life when he says that everything is meaningless: pleasure, wisdom, folly (or the enjoyment of everything), toil, advancement, riches, etc. Nothing in this earth, gave fulfillment to his heart.

In the end of his search, this is what he concluded:

Ecclesiastes 12:13-14

Our purpose and fulfillment revolves around our relationship with God. What's good in this life is to fear God, and keep His commandments. THIS IS THE WHOLE DUTY OF MAN in this life. After this life, there is eternity and how you live life in this world determines your eternity. This life is a preparation for eternity.

In this world that is growing more and more godless everyday, we must seek God. In Him, we find fulfillment.

Psalm 53:2-3
God is looking for seekers. Are you a seeker? What do you think keeps us from seeking God?

Matthew 6:28-33
Should the worries of this life prevent us from seeking God? Why? What should be the first priority of our lives?

Psalm 10:4
Who does not seek God? Why? In what ways can pride keep us from seeking God?

Jeremiah 29:11-13
What is God's promise to the Israelites if they seek Him? Why shouldn't we be afraid to seek God? How should we seek God?

Acts 17:26-27
What is God's purpose for putting you when and where you are right now?

Hebrews 11:6
